Set-up Instructions:
1. Plug Van de Graaff into cart that it is on (check that it is in the off position prior to doing this.)
2. Test effectiveness by plugging in a grounding rod and turning on machine.
3. If sufficient spark is not produced, change the belt on the machine (see changing belt instructions below).
4. Connect any parts or accessories per Lecturer specifications
5. Give the demonstration at least 1 final test before sending into the lecture hall.
Changing the Belt:
1. Remove all 6 screws holding base together.
2. Remove top of dome.
3. Remove used belt.
4. Place a dry rag on the end of the long beaker cleaner brush.
5. Squirt Methanol on rag.
6. Use rag to clean interior column of Van de Graaff.
7. Using the yellow tool, re-attach a new belt.
8. Check leads at the top and bottom to be sure that they are close enough to the belt.
9. Reassemble dome and base.
