Mass of Air

Concept Overview:

1. Air has mass.

Lecturer Procedure

Step(s) to FollowExpected Result

1. Turn on scale and zero it.

2. Place ballon on scale and note reading.

3. Blow up balloon and return to scale.

4. Note reading.

The mass of the balloon will have increased by approximately 1 gram, showing that air does have mass.
Alternately, the scale can be zeroed with the empty balloon on it prior to blowing it up.  Upon remeasuring the balloon, a mass of 1 gram will be shown on the scale.
