Crushing a Pop Can

A soda can, a hot plate, a beaker of ice water, and a pair of gloves

Lecturer Procedure

Step(s) to Follow	Expected Result
1. Place can on hot plate (there should already be water in it) 2. Turn on hot plate and wait for water in the can to boil. 3. Allow steam to come out of the can for a minute or so 4. Remove can from the hot plate and cover the hole 5. Invert the can into the ice water	The gas inside the can will condense immediately into water, leaving a void (as there is no air in the can) Therefore, the can will crush under the pressure of the atmosphere.
