Copper Wires of Different Cross-Sectional Areas

Identifier: E&M: C - 017

A red wire and a black wire in series

Concept Overview:

Resistance and resistivity properties of two segments of copper wire that are equal in length but have different cross-sectional areas

Lecturer Procedure

Step(s) to Follow

  1. Turn on power supply.
  2. Measure voltage drop across red wire.
  3. Measure voltage drop across black wire.

Expected Result

The black wire will have a voltage drop approximately 6 times greater than that of the red wire.
