WM&S-50: Speaker and Candle

Equipment: The Speaker is kept between room 3 and 5, Frequency generator and Frequency counter are kept in Set 1, Cabinet 1, Sh 3 & 4.
Procedure: The speaker and candle demonstration helps students see that sound waves have a longitudinal nature. A candle is set in front of a large speaker which is operating at a frequency of 10 to 20 Hz. The flickering of the candle shows the longitudinal nature of sound waves.
